Description

According to NH the present image is etched over an earlier, lighter version that is probably not by Rembrandt.


Attributions and reviews

The plate was made by a pupil according to Münz (possibly van Vliet, then completed by Rembrandt), Hind, Seidlitz and Campbell Dodgson.
White-Boon consider the plate to be reworked by a pupil, probably Johannes Van Vliet.
The plate is not by Rembrandt according to Middleton, Coppier and Singer.
