Attributions and reviews
The plate was made by a pupil according to Münz, Seidlitz and Campbell Dodgson.
The plate is not by Rembrandt according to Coppier, Michel and Singer.
States
All authors list two states, Nowell-Usticke one trial proof and one state.
In the 1st state (R443/NU trial proof A) the plate is unfinished, the figures are only worked out to the knees.
In the 2nd state (R444/NU 1st state) the plate is finished and signed, probably not by Rembrandt.
Prints and collections
The only impression of the 1st state is in the Albertina. There are impressions of the 2nd state in the Rijksmuseum, the British Museum, the Albertina, the Bibliothèque Nationale and the Rothschild Collection (Paris).
